Are you 13-18?
Would you like to do something different for the summer?
Why not be a tour guide for kids?
We are looking for young people who are willing to take a group of 10-12 year-olds around archaeological sites in Thessaloniki and Halkidiki!
Applicants need to be enthusiastic, hard-working and have a knowledge of English because the children will be from England. Applicants should also have relevant experience which should be explained in your letter of application.
Please write to Ms Christou to apply for this job.
Dear Ms Christou,
I am writing to apply for the tour guide's job as advertised in the Sunday newspaper. I would be interesting in guiding the kids because I want to pass my summer with something different than usual vacations.
I am thirteen years old and it is my first year at junior high school. I have a high level in English so I am thinking this is a great chance to improve them more. I would also like to be an English teacher when I will go to university.I have a previous experience when I had informed my classmates about the Kerkini lake at your school trip to Poroia. I have confidence and I like archeology too, so I will not have a problem with the job, plus the kids are near my age.
I would like ask some questions to get prepared for the job. I would like to be informed about the date and time of the sightseeing tour. I would also like to know if there is going to be a payment for the tour. I would also be grateful if you could let me know if I should bring more notes with me for explaining to the kids with certainty.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Your sincerely,
Theodora Angelidou
LETTER:
Dear Theodora,
I'm writing to you because I really don't know what to do. You see, I have a really big problem! I'm the best student in the class because my parents make me do my homework everyday. The problem is that some of my teachers give me so much homework that I have to spend all evening until 11 or 12 at night and all weekend doing it to finish it and as a result, I don't get to socialise with friends outside school at all. My parents say I have to do everything otherwise I won't get 20 all the time and if I get 19, they say that I have to study that subject again. I used to love studying and doing my homework but now I just get too tired and I don't have fun anymore. My friends tell me about all the fun they have at the weekend but I just feel exhausted all the time and have nothing exciting to tell them. I'm afraid they are going to get bored with me and stop being my friends.
I really don't know what I should do. Can you help me?
Your friend,
Ben
ADVICE:
Dear Ben,
I think you should tell to your parents that you can't spend your whole day by doing homework. It's not normal for a kid in your age. All children need some time to have fun…! A very good idea is to talk with your parents and tell them that there's no need to be a nerd. By that I mean that it's not necessary to take 20 in all your subjects. And, you could tell them that you want to sped some time with your friends because it's good to be sociable and be on contact with your friends and classmates. If they understand you, you won't have to worry about your friendship with the other boys.
Hope this might help. It was a pleasure to help you.
Yours,
Theodora

I looked at the door and opened it excitedly. It was snowing outside!!!! You could see children playing and jumping around with smiles on their faces. I ran upstairs, I put on my jacket and went outside to play with my friends! We were having so much fun all together….After a long time, we went to Helen's house and sat near the fireplace to drink our hot chocolate from Mikel. It was delicious! We sang all of our favourite Christmas songs, like ''Last Christmas'', ''Shake up Christmas'', ''Merry Christmas Everyone'' and other! In the evening we decided to go shopping at Cosmos! We bought some little bells and some Christmas balls for the tree. Then, we went to buy a Christmas outfit. I picked a red sweater with a pair of jeans and a pair of black leather boots. Near the shopping centre, there was a karaoke competition for teenagers and Alexandra and I decided to sing a Christmas song. We picked the song ''All I want for Christmas is you''. I sang the main lyrics and she did the vocals'' We won the 2nd place. Our prize was two Christmas dresses. I decided to give it to my sister. Aggeliki loved it! At night my family and I sat in the living room and watched our favourite Christmas movie: ''The grinch who stole Christmas''! When the movie had finished, I went to bed. I hope I will never forget this day!
